New Look Falmouth Oyster Festival Flyer
and Website Now Available!
The new look Falmouth Oyster Festival flyer is now widely available from Tourist Information Centres, shops, pubs and restaurants, sailing clubs, attractions and other outlets throughout the area. Falmouth Oyster Festival, 15th to 18th October 2009, is shaping up to be another hugely successful event, with a packed programme of daily cookery demonstrations and music, marquees bustling with Cornish food produce and art and craft stalls.
Local Falmouth based designers 2020 Displays has produced a vibrant festival flyer and a comprehensive website promoting the various aspects of this extremely popular festival. The flyer gives prominence to St Michael’s Hotel & Spa as new sponsor for 2009 and festival partners Skinner’s Brewery, Walter Hicks Wines, University College Falmouth, Cornwall College and the many supporters of the event. St Michael's will be organising the oyster stand and launching a new Seafood Bar for 2009, with fresh crab, prawns and other seafood.
“We are really pleased with the publicity for the event, we wanted something that reflected the traditional feel of the festival with a new twist” commented Sian Robbins, Events & Promotions officer for VisitCornwall “The event attracts a wide range of visitors - from the oyster and seafood aficionado to the maritime enthusiast and the foodie devotee looking for something different, produced in Cornwall.”
The brand new website for the event www.falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk reflects the same design as the flyer and provides the full entertainment programme for the four day event, details on Mat Follas, winner of BBC Masterchef 2009, who will open the event with a cookery master-class, a spotlight on the local chefs and their restaurants who will cook their signature dishes to appreciative audiences, stand holder and travel information as well as the history and traditions of the oyster fishery.
Each year, new elements are added to the festival and this year St Michael’s Hotel & Spa are hosting a number of special events at the hotel, including The Oyster Ball, which returns to the events programme after a much missed absence. St Michael’s Flying Fish Restaurant will also be running a special Gourmet night with different wines to accompany each course, and a Jazz lunch on the Sunday.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to support the festival as main sponsor for the next three years and enhance the Festival programme with a range of special events at St Michael’s. Both St Michael’s and The Oyster Festival are about celebrating local food and suppliers, having fun and enjoying great seafood! .. so it’s a perfect partnership!” commented Nigel Carpenter, Proprietor of St Michael’s Hotel & Spa.
The festival takes place on Events Square outside the Maritime Museum, with the museum displaying oyster dredgers on its pontoon, showing a film of the local oyster fishery ‘Brought up on Oysters’ in the Lecture Theatre and giving free entry to the Museum during the festival for children accompanies by a paying adult. Visitors will also be able to take a boat trip to see the oyster boats at work, and maybe some of the wildlife to be seen in our local waters.
The event celebrates the start of the oyster dredging season and the diversity and quality of Cornish seafood and in particular, one of the last remaining traditional oyster fisheries, dredging by sail and oar. The festival is one of a few where visitors can sit, taste and take in the festival atmosphere; in fact visitors to the festival last year likened the event to some of the best seafood and maritime events in Europe – a true accolade!
