Valentine Warner to Open Falmouth Oyster Festival 2010

Valentine Warner, food writer and star of BBC Two’s ‘What To Eat Now’ series will lead the Opening Ceremony of Falmouth Oyster Festival on Thursday 14th October, with a demonstration of his culinary expertise and passion for cooking with local, wild ingredients, showcasing the diversity and quality of Cornish seafood and produce.

“Valentine is no stranger to Falmouth, the oyster fishermen and the ancient traditions of the oyster fishery, as he spent time filming the oystermen at work for his television series. Valentine will meet up with the characters behind the festival, who supply the delicacies that take centre stage at Falmouth Oyster Festival” said Sian Robbins, Events & Promotions Officer at VisitCornwall “Valentine has been described as a culinary adventurer with a passion for food, nature and the seasons. With his knowledge of the unique methods of dredging oysters around Falmouth, he will be the perfect chef to launch the festival for us.”

His first television series of ‘What to Eat Now’ saw Valentine seeking out the best food and dishes that Autumn has to offer, and in the second series Valentine concentrated on Summer’s seasonal bounty. The two accompanying books have been best-sellers. Valentine will be signing books after the cookery demonstration giving festival visitors the chance to meet the chef and try out his recipes for themselves.

Valentine writes a monthly column for Delicious Magazine and CountryFile and has written for The Times, The Independent, Waitrose Food Illustrated and more. A self-confessed, natural born fidget, Valentine always finds a cure for his restlessness at home in the kitchen.

The event, sponsored by St Michael’s Hotel and Spa, will take place from 14th to 17th October 2010 at its waterfront venue at Events Square in Falmouth. Valentine joins a long list of popular television personalities who have appeared at the festival including Rick Stein, Hugh Fernley Whittingstall, Antonio Carluccio, Aldo Zilly, John Burton Race and Clarissa Dickson Wright.
