St Michael's Hotel & Spa to sponsor Falmouth Oyster Festival
September 2011

St Michael’s Hotel and Spa in Falmouth has been announced as the official major sponsor for the Falmouth Oyster Festival for the third year running.

The Falmouth Oyster Festival, which is organised by Falmouth Festivals Ltd, is taking place from 13 to 16 October 2011. Events will be taking place in Events Square and, as the major sponsor, St Michael’s Hotel will be the location for a number of oyster inspired events during the four days of the festival, including the official launch event.

A Gourmet Night at St Michael’s Hotel & Spa with reigning Masterchef champion, Tim Anderson, and Executive Head Chef of the Flying Fish Restaurant, Nick Hodges takes place on Wednesday 12 October and marks the start of the festival.  A six course dinner with wines to match each course will kick off the four days of events and activities in Falmouth and at St Michael’s Hotel.

Now in its 15th year, the festival celebrates all things oyster and marks the start of the oyster dredging season.  The four days include craft and food stalls, live music, cookery demonstrations, working boat races and much more.

Nigel Carpenter, Proprietor of St Michael’s Hotel & Spa, said “We have been strong supporters of the Falmouth Oyster Festival for a number of years and are delighted to be the main sponsor again this year. This event always has a great atmosphere and there is always something for the whole family to enjoy.

“Over the years we have developed a close relationship with the Falmouth oystermen and I firmly believe the Oyster Festival is incredibly important in highlighting and celebrating the traditional method of harvesting oysters here in Falmouth.  This is one of the few places in the world where wild oysters are still dredged under sail and it is important that this continues to be appreciated and prospers in the future”.
